St. Sergius Cathedral in Ufa has always been and remains the only Orthodox church that has never stopped its religious life. Even in the 1930s during the persecutions of religion its doors were open to believers. Moscow Streltsy (guardsmen) built the cathedral in the XVI century, but the wooden building was destroyed by fire. Since then the cathedral has been rebuilt many times.

A long five-day sacred procession around Ufa starts from the cathedral every year. The flow of pilgrims wishing to pay their respects to the holy relics of St. Sergius and other the sanctified Orthodox is constantly growing. There is a “cave” at the territory next to the cathedral, a monastic sepulture where abbots of the monastery of the same name are buried. There is also a spring with holy water there.
